The mechanical seal on your SQN pump sits on the motor shaft and rotates against the head of the pump, effortlessly forming a leak-free seal.

When replacing the impeller on your pump it is wise to use the opportunity to inspect the smooth surface of the mechanical seal for nicks or cracks that could lead to leaks.

The mechanical seal is one of just four parts that are typically replaced when performing a full rebuild on a Jabsco FIP head. The other parts are as follows:

Carbon-Nitrile seals are typically installed in the pump unless otherwise specified, as they have good compatibility with a wide range of liquids, although they are not recommended if you plan on cleaning your pump with ozone.

Carbon-Viton seals are installed in pumps where ozone will routinely be used for cleaning the pump head.
